Work Package 1 "Baseline Study on Open Labs and Startup Eco-System on Bioeconomy in the Euro-MED area - UNIFE"

WP1 aims to create a detailed database on collaborative spaces and bio-economy start-ups in six Euro-MED countries.
It includes a baseline study to understand the current state of open innovation labs and the start-up ecosystem. The collected data will inform project outcomes and help identify strengths and gaps in the regional innovation landscape.

WP1 also has two communication goals:

  1. Raise awareness and engage stakeholders using digital and traditional media to highlight the value of participating in the survey.
  2. Support effective data collection by explaining project goals, offering user-friendly tools, and providing clear instructions and info sessions.

Activity 1.1 – Creating a detailed Euro-MED map of Open Labs
Deliverables 1.1 – Map chart of the EuroMED Open Labs.

Activity 1.2 – Creating a data-set of Start-ups and microenterprises, focused on bio-economy processes, in different value chains
Deliverable 1.2 – Database of Start-ups and SMEs on bioeconomy.

Activity 1.3 – Providing a preliminary BASELINE STUDY on the ecosystem of Start-ups and micro-enterprises, focused on bio-economy processes, and related supporting infrastructures. 
Deliverable 1.3 – Sole MED Baseline study on Bioeconomy Startup ecosystem and collaborative spaces for acceleration.

Activity 1.4 – Coordination with mission governance projects (TCP & IDP) and JS.

Activity 1.5 – Sole MED Communication and Dissemination Strategy.

Work Package 2 "Design and customise the Open Labs model to transfer at transnational scale -Municipality of Ferrara"

WP2 aims to scale up the Emilia-Romagna Open Labs model across the Euro-MED region.
This involves adapting its business creation and acceleration methods to local contexts, building a transnational network of Open Labs that supports start-ups, boosts regional collaboration, and drives sustainable growth in the bio-economy.

The communication goal of WP2 is to promote the Emilia-Romagna model to local governments, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and innovation hubs—encouraging the adoption of collaborative spaces and innovative practices to foster transnational development across urban areas in the Euro-MED.

Activity 2.1 – Realising and organising the Sole MED core-network structure of Open Labs.
Deliverables 2.1 – Memorandum of Understanding of the Sole MED network of Open Labs.

Activity 2.2 – Creating an implementation methodology and action plan to enlarge and enhance the Sole Network at Euro-MED level.
Deliverable 2.2 – Sole MED Implementation Methodology and Action Plan.

Activity 2.3 – Contribution to the results amplification strategy. 
Deliverable 2.3 – Report on producing, reuse, and integrating knowledge with the support of Thematic Community Projects.

Work Package 3 "Designing, setting and assessing a Bio Economy Startup Creation Lab for youths - Region of Thessaly"

WP3 aims to adapt and implement the “Start-up Creation Lab” model from Emilia-Romagna for the MED region, focusing on young people aged 18 to 30.
It will develop a tailored framework to support bio-economy start-ups through training, mentorship, and resources—empowering youth, boosting innovation, and improving employability while promoting sustainability and resilience in the region.

The communication goal of WP3 is to engage and inspire young entrepreneurs through social media, webinars, and outreach in schools and universities—raising awareness and equipping them with key start-up skills and knowledge.

Activity 3.1 – Designing and delivering the Common Training Course based on the “Bio-economy start-up creation Lab” model, focused on bio-economy.

Work Package 4 "Implementing the Bio-economy startup Creation Lab Training Course - Municipality of Lleida"

WP4 aims to launch the “Bio-economy Startup Creation Lab” across the Euro-MED, targeting young people aged 18 to 30.
It focuses on building entrepreneurial skills and supporting the creation of innovative bio-economy ventures through hands-on labs, training, mentorship, and resources. The goal is to empower youth, boost employability, and promote sustainable economic and environmental growth in the region.

The communication objective is to engage young people—including students, young professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs—by promoting the lab’s benefits through targeted campaigns, social media, school partnerships, youth organizations, and open calls.

Activity 4.1 – Launch and Implementation of the Common Training Course on Bioeconomy for Young Start-up Entrepreneurs in 6 MED Countries.
